If your company requires location when clocking in or out, your device needs both location services and permission for Time Portal. These are two different settings.
Choose your device: iPhone / iPad | Android / Zebra | Windows
Start with the message in Time Portal
- Permission required: If offered, tap Allow location access (called Request Permission in older builds) and respond to the system prompt. If the app offers Open App Settings, use that to change a previously denied permission.
- Location services off: Enable location for the whole device using the instructions below. On iPhone, open Settings manually; an app-settings shortcut does not open the global Location Services switch.
- Location access is restricted: Contact your device administrator. Device-management or parental restrictions may prevent you from changing access.
Return to Time Portal after changing a setting. Updated builds recheck when you return. In older builds, leave and reopen the Clock In/Out screen if the old message remains.
iPhone and iPad
Location services off | Time Portal permission required
Turn on device Location Services
- Open your iPhone or iPad's Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security → Location Services.
- Turn on Location Services.
- Return to Time Portal. If app permission is also required, follow its next prompt.
Allow Time Portal to use location
- If Time Portal offers Allow location access, tap it and choose Allow While Using App in the system prompt.
- If access was denied, tap Open App Settings, then Location → While Using the App. You can also open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Time Portal.
- Enable Precise Location for better accuracy.
- Return to Time Portal.
You do not need Always access. If Time Portal is not listed, open Clock In or Support in the app and use the permission request when offered. If settings are locked, contact your administrator. Apple's location-permission guidance
Android and Zebra
Location services off | Time Portal permission required
Turn on device location
- Tap Open Location Settings, or open the device's Settings → Location.
- Turn on Use location.
- Return to Time Portal.
Allow Time Portal to use location
- If offered, tap Allow location access and choose While using the app.
- If the app directs you to settings, tap Open App Settings, then Permissions → Location → Allow only while using the app. You can also open Settings → Apps → Time Portal → Permissions → Location.
- If available, turn on Use precise location for better accuracy.
- Return to Time Portal.
Setting names vary by Android version and manufacturer. You do not need Allow all the time. On managed Zebra devices, contact your administrator if controls are hidden or locked. Google's location-permission guidance
Windows
Location services off | Time Portal permission required
Turn on device location
- Tap Open Location Settings, or open Start → Settings → Privacy & security → Location on Windows 11.
- Turn on Location services.
- Return to Time Portal.
On Windows 10, use Start → Settings → Privacy → Location and enable location for the device.
Allow location access
- Open Windows location privacy settings using the settings button in Time Portal or the path above.
- Enable Let apps access your location, where available.
- If Time Portal has an individual permission switch, enable it. Windows may treat Time Portal as a desktop app and not show a separate switch.
- Return to Time Portal and allow location access if Windows prompts you.
If settings are managed by your organization, contact your Windows administrator. Microsoft's location-settings guidance
Check again in Time Portal
In Support → Location access, use Refresh location when available. Location unavailable means coordinates are unavailable; it is different from permission being denied. Once required services and permission are enabled, temporarily unavailable coordinates alone do not prevent clocking in or out. If your company does not require location, no location changes are needed.
For an unexpected error, use Try again. If the problem continues, select Support → Submit support request and include your device type, the displayed message, and a screenshot. Do not uninstall the app or clear its data; that can remove work that has not uploaded.
