You can record your work without an internet connection after completing setup on your device. Your work stays on that device until you reconnect and upload it. This article covers Single User mode in the new Time Portal Mobile app.
Set up before going offline
- Connect to the internet and sign in on the device you will use for work.
- Complete PIN setup when prompted and let the initial sync finish.
- Check that the jobs, locations, and other selections you need are available.
- If your company requires location access, enable your device's location services and grant the app permission.
Your first sign-in and initial company download require an internet connection. A new device needs its own setup; having signed in on another device does not prepare this one for offline use.
What you can do offline
- Sign in to an account already set up on this device using its saved sign-in information, including your PIN.
- Clock in and out using downloaded jobs and other selections.
- Start new work when you switch jobs or locations.
- Enter your final piece count when clocking out of piece work.
- Review records stored on this device and correct eligible records.
- Review and approve completed work, including providing a required reason or signature.
Company rules still apply offline. Required work selections and location permissions are not bypassed. If the app requests location access, follow its instructions before trying again.
For step-by-step clocking instructions, see Clocking in and Clocking out.
What needs a connection
- Setting up an account on this device for the first time.
- Downloading new or updated jobs, locations, reasons, and other company information.
- Uploading recorded work and approvals to your employer.
- Uploading diagnostics when support requests them.
Offline lists reflect the information downloaded earlier. A job added by your office will not become available on this device until you reconnect and sync.
If you open Sync without a connection
Sync reports that it cannot connect. Read the message; a failed sync does not mean that your recorded work was deleted.
Example for an account whose initial setup is already complete.
Select OK to return to the app and continue working with the information already downloaded. After reconnecting, select Try again or open Sync again.
If initial setup has not finished, the app requires a successful download before you can start working. Reconnect and finish setup first.
Saved and approved does not mean uploaded
Clock-in and clock-out confirmations mean the work was saved on this device. Likewise, Approval complete confirms that your approval was saved locally.
These confirmations do not mean your employer has received the records. You can approve work offline, but you still need to reconnect and upload it.
When you reconnect
- Check that you are signed in to the account that recorded the work.
- Review and approve any completed work still waiting for approval.
- Open the menu and select Sync.
- Keep the app open until the attempt finishes and read Sync details.
- Check Time records for the work's upload status.
In Single User mode, open Sync when connected to send eligible records and refresh company lists. See Uploading your records for instructions.
Keep unsent work on the device
Do not uninstall the app, clear its data, or replace the device while work is waiting to upload. Offline work is stored on the device where you recorded it.
If you cannot sign in offline, verify that you are using the same device and account that completed setup. If a required job or location is missing, reconnect and sync; contact your supervisor if it remains unavailable.
For a persistent problem, open the menu and select Support. Include what you were doing, the workday involved, and the exact message shown.
