This is part of a series of articles on Importing Time Sheets with Excel.
In this article we will import time sheets using the Time Sheet Import program.
This article assumes you have a time sheet template properly filled out and ready for import. Please review the topic Downloading an Import Time Sheet Template for information on downloading (and filling out) a template.
To begin the import process, let's first navigate to the Time Sheet Imports screen by clicking on the Import menu and then clicking Import Time Sheets.
Once we arrive on the Import Time Sheets screen, let's click on the Create New Import button.
This takes us to the new import screen. The first step in creating a new import is to click the "Choose File" button to select your filled out time sheet template from your local computer.
An Open file dialog window will display.
- We will navigate to the location on our local computer where we saved our template and select it.
- Then, we will click on the "Open" button.
Once the file is selected:
- The program will display the selected file name next to the "Choose File" button.
- The "Upload Template" button will be enabled and we can now upload our time sheet template. Let's click the "Upload Template" button.
After clicking the "Upload Template" button, our template will be uploaded and analyzed by Time Portal. Once Time Portal completes its interrogation of the uploaded file, it will return to us its findings.
Important - At this point, Time Portal has NOT imported the time sheet data. This screen will display the results of Time Portal's review of the file. This gives us a chance to make sure that Time Portal will import what we expect and lets us correct any issues if they are found. Please see Reviewing Import Results for more information.
If "everything looks good", We will click on the "Import data" button.
Clicking the "Import data" button kicks off the import process. This is the step where our data is actually imported into Time Portal. If everything goes as expected, we will be informed that our import was successful. Click the "OK" button once the import is complete.
Clicking the "OK" button will take us back to the Time Sheet Imports screen where we will see our imported time sheet template history record. Please see the topic Managing Time Sheet Imports for more information about this screen.
