If your Time Sheet includes employees who are performing (or have performed) piece work, you may use the Piece Splits feature to divide numerous pieces among selected employees. If paying by the acre, for example, you might use this option to split 20 acres among 15 employees and avoid having to individually update each employee’s time sheet record with 1.33 acres.
Tap “Piece Splits”
1. Start by tapping the Menu button on the Time Sheet screen to slide out a tray of menu options.
2. Tap More Options to display additional options in the menu.
3. Tap Piece Splits to view or create piece splits for the current Time Sheet.
The Piece Splits screen
The Piece Splits screen provides a list of piece splits which have been created for the Time Sheet. In the illustration below, the New Piece Split button is displayed since no piece splits have been created for the Time Sheet.
Note: The options to create a new piece split will not be available if no piece jobs have been performed on the current Time Sheet. Also, piece splits cannot be created or modified if any employee approvals have been performed.
Add a new piece split
Tap the New Piece Split or + button to create a new piece split and notice the screen will prompt you to enter the number of pieces to be split. In the illustration below, the value of 500 has just been entered and the system knows that the unit of measure for the current Time Sheet is “Bin(s)”.
Dividing the pieces
The Piece Splits screen now shows that 500 boxes will be split equally for each employee and allows you to select the employees who will receive a share of the split. As you tap on each employee, the pro-rated share for every selected employee will be recalculated. For example, after selecting four employees, the share for each is 500 / 4 = 125 boxes.
If you wish to change the number of pieces to be split, just tap the piece count button near the top to display the piece count editing overlay. In the illustration below, the button is labeled 500 Bin(s) since the value of 500 was previously entered.
You may notice that some employees are listed more than once. The list includes an entry for each employee’s clock-in to a job that pays for the selected type of piece work (Boxes in this example.) This lets you apply the pro-rated piece splits to different work sessions for each employee.
In addition to splitting pieces equally for each selected employee, you can also split pieces based on the hours worked. This would allocate twice the piece share to an 8-hour worker than to a 4-hour worker. To use this piece split method, just tap the drop-down titled Split equally for each employee and select the option titled Split by hours worked. Note that the list will be filtered to only include records for workers who have clocked out and all previous selections will be cleared.
The Piece Splits list
After tapping the OK button, the Piece Splits screen will list the piece split that was just created for the current Time Sheet. You may tap on this item to make additional changes or you may tap the + button to add an additional piece split. Remember that no additional changes can be made after any approvals have been performed on the Time Sheet.
Viewing employee piece counts
The Time Sheet screen displays the piece count for the current job for each employee which may include pieces from a piece split as well as pieces that were added elsewhere.
As illustrated, Misael has 127 Bins (125 from the piece split plus 2 which were individually added) while Fernando only has the 125 from the piece split.
Since the Time Sheet screen only shows piece counts for the currently active job, this information will not be displayed for employees who have clocked out. You can always review total piece counts on the Approve screen.
